The Essential Postures of Tai Chi Chuan
The Eight basic postures or movements found in all Tai Chi Chuan Sequences directly correspond to the archetypical patterns of change of the Trigrams of the I Ching. There is also a correspondence between the eight basic hand techniques of Tai Chi Chuan. The essence of Tai Chi Chuan is found in the eight basic postures, Ward Off, Roll Back, Press, Push, Elbow Strike, Shoulder Strike, Split and Pluck, with Five Elements and the Five Ways. Advance Retreat, Look Left, Look Right and Central Equilibrium. By studying the basic classics of Tai Chi Chuan the student learns to apply the principals into their practice and daily life.
